Denham Range - October 2008
On Sunday the 12th we gathered at Horseland to plan our day trip. Geoff and Nita were nominated Trip Leaders, and Angie had the pleasurable job of being the Fines person of the day. Maddy and Lance were told that this report needed to be written by greenhorns.
At approx 8am we headed off also with Nita and Geoff in front, followed by Angie and Tony, Paul and grandson Jarrid, and Lance and Maddy. We then progressed to inherit our tail end Charlie somewhere around Pleystowe, and by strange coincidence his name is “Charlie.”
We got a call from our fear less leader around Finch Hatton saying that there was a snake on the road and did anybody run it over. By the time we spotted it must have shrunk to about 60cm’s long and greenish.
In amongst radio chit chatter the boys through off at us girls for admiring the scenery and gorgeous Jacarandas. One comment came from an unknown male stating, “They should be all chopped down.”
On the way up the range we had a limited view because we were virtually in the clouds. We arrived at the top for an emergency pit stop before heading off again. We progressed to Crediton where locals Pam and Lawrie joined us.
After a few extra kilometres, and a little chitchat, we eventually found the Hazel Wood Gorge turn off and we went in and had a look. What a glorious view. Absolutely Awesome. We all enjoyed a quick smoko before heading off to the Denham Range.
Our fearless leaders took us around the loop road, stopping once again to enjoy another view at the Denham Range camping ground. After another gasbag we then made our way to the Crediton/Mia Mia Rd for the trip down. By this time food was again on our minds and we stopped for lunch at approx 1pm to check out a frill neck lizard in a tree, and it was decided that we should eat. (Not the lizard). Luckily there was no traffic at all as we had taken over the whole road. A couple of the Girls took over driving from the boys. The boys noted how rough it is to be passenger.
Once again we admired the bush scenery, and sharing the track with a wild pig and bullocks. We stopped at the Teemburra creek crossing for a bit more of R & R.
Then we drove the last leg of the trip to The Pinnacle Pub for ice creams and drinks and the official end for the day.
A great big THANKS to all who joined us on the day.
By Lance and Maddy.
